VLC Media Player 2.1.0 Released With New Audio Core, 4K Support and Android & iOS Ports

VLC media player (AKA VLC) is a highly portable free and open-source mediaplayer and streaming media server written by the VideoLAN project, has got a major new update on all platforms, including mobile. VLC 2.1 �Rincewind� comes a year after v2.0 was released, and brings improvements to the audio output and comes with ports for Android, iOS and Windows RT. As always, the open-source software remains free to download on all operating systems.
    
  The VLC port for Windows 8 is backed by a Kickstarter campaign to add support for a new GUI based on Microsoft's Metro design language. It brings support for DVDs, VCDs and unencrypted Blu-ray Discs, all of which which are not supported in Windows 8.All the existing features including video filters, subtitle support and an equalizer will be present in Windows 8.
          In May 2012, the VLC team stated that a version of VLC for Android was being developed. A beta version has been made available on Google Play.
