Datawind popular due to there low cost Tablet named Akash has come up with another budget device this time it's an phone.Datawind showcased three new devices today among which two are priced below 5,000 Rs.All the models have the same 5 Inch TFT capacitive display . The CEO of Datawind said he was able to produce a smartphone which is 40%
cheaper than the current cheapest phone.He is said all the parts of Phone includeing Screen were manufactured by them in India itself.
The lineup consists of 3 devices Pocketsurfer 5 is the cheapest with Linux based OS.The phone has Front Facing VGA camera and 5 inch screen . The phone is priced at Rs 3,499 only. The battery life of the phone is very poor It only got 3 hours battery talktime with only 1 Day battery standby but you can't ask for more at this price. If you are willing to push your budget by a 1500 rupees you can buy a pocketsurfer 5 the phone has some additional features from 5X like WIFI and EDGE connectivity, Android 4.0 plus all the features from 5 like MicroSD card and Micro USB connectivity.The phone still lacks 3G connectivity which is present in almost all the Android phones.
The Flagship Smartphone called POCKETSURFER3GS has a 5 Inch HD Display. The 5 Inch screen will allow you to play HD Widescreen videos and HD games. The phone also Runs on Android 4.2 (Jellybean) . The battery of the phone also got some upgrades, compared to the previous models this one has 2 Day battery standby .The processor is clocked at 1.2GHZ . The inbuilt memory of the phone is 4 GB and it can be expanded to 32 GB using MicroSD card. The 5 MP Rear camera shows average performance.
Globally,the shift from feature phones to Smartphones is becoming more Rapid.In India almost 12.8 Million Smartphones were sold in The Third quarter of the year. The Datawind was able to sell 1million Tablets units so far . They are planing to sell about 80,000 phones in the next year for this they are making tie ups with cellular providers (The phones are available in on online store too).
If the phone has good quality unlike the tablets they produced so far Datawind will be able to puta good fight against budget level smartphones.
