Nokia announced a new update called Lumia Black to add Bluetooth LE to all Windows Phone 8 Lumias. The Lumia Black update will enable the Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy technology for the entire WP8 Lumia lineup. Nokia already enabled the Bluetooth low energy technology to low and mid range Lumia phones such as Lumia 520, 620, 625, and 720 by the latest Amber Update. Nokia announced that the Bluetooth LE will be available to high end Lumia phones by the upcoming update "Lumia Black" soon.
The Bluetooth LE allows you to connect your phone with special accessories like heart rate monitors. While doing that, thanks to Bluetooth LE connection, the accessory battery will last much longer, up to months. The technology is mainly aimed in applications in the healthcare, fitness, security, and home entertainment industries. Compared to "Classic" Bluetooth, BLE is intended to provide considerably reduced power consumption and lower cost, while maintaining a similar communication range
